CREATIVITY AND RELAXATION IN THE HEART OF EXMOOR This three night creative weekend break has been designed to be jam-packed full of inspiration and creativity for those who enjoy working with different creative mediums to make books and journals. Throughout the weekend, you will be taken on a journey of exploration in paper, textiles, metal-craft and mixed media collage, resulting in four stunning handmade book projects that can be treasured for years to come.
LOCATION Your weekend of creative escape is based at North Shorland Old Farm within Exmoor National Park in North Devon. North Shorland Old Farm is peacefully situated in 14 acres of inspiring gardens and farmland – ideal for artists who appreciate the aesthetic beauty of Exmoor and its surrounding area.
ACCOMMODATION The comfortable and well-appointed en-suite bedrooms are based in the 16th century farmhouse and adjoining buildings. There is also a guest lounge with TV and log fire for relaxation. You can be sure of a homely welcome at Shorland where you will enjoy a three course English breakfast and in the evening a home cooked four course dinner. Local produce is use whenever possible and, although Shorland is not licenced, you are welcome to bring your own wine.
CLASSES All classes will be taken in the light and airy purpose-built art studio and lunch will be provided in the studio, so you can take a break from your creativity and catch up with other guests on the comfortable seating around the cosy woodburner. Your qualified tutors for the weekend are experts in their field and will share with you their inspiration, design ideas and technique knowledge.
YOUR BOOK MAKING JOURNEY The course is made up of six technique-packed lessons that will come together to make four fantastic books/journals. You will experience an eclectic mix of materials and mediums, explore ways to make projects from almost nothing and discover the joy of recycling and altering old things in order to give them a new lease of life.
THE BOOKS
- Textile book: using handstitching, applique, machine stitching, burning and other techniques.
- Handmade paper book: includes making your own paper from natural materials to make the book.
- ‘Antique’ metal and board book: using embossing, burnishing, stamping, etching.
- Mixed media collage book: mixed media collage including altering books

BOOKING INFORMATION Price includes: 3 nights en-suite shared bedroom with drink making facilities; three course breakfast, lunch in studio, four course evening meal, studio refreshments; 3 days tuition in mixed media techniques including papermaking, stitch, metal to make four book projects, some materials. A £50 non-returnable deposit is required at time of booking. Balance payments will be due 6 weeks before event. Please contact us in first instance to register interest. You will then be contacted when date is confirmed with full booking details, subject to your availability, before paying deposit.
